How to play
Chess Arena has seven board games and a library of classic puzzles. Each guide below explains the rules exactly as the game applies them, then gives a few ideas that help a new player win more often.
- Chess: the world's best known strategy game.
- Xiangqi: Chinese chess, with cannons, a river and a palace.
- Dark Chess: xiangqi with the pieces face down, where luck and memory join skill.
- Go: surround more of the board on a quick 9x9 game.
- Caro: five in a row on a 15x15 board, a favourite in Vietnamese schools.
- Co Ganh: a Vietnamese folk game where captured pieces change sides.
- O An Quan: the Vietnamese sowing game played with stones.
- Classic puzzles: compositions collected in books from the Ming dynasty onward.
New to all of this?
Start with Caro or Co Ganh. A full game takes a few minutes and the rules fit on one screen. When you want something deeper, try Chess or Xiangqi against the lowest computer level, then move up as you start to win. Every game has a rating that rises and falls with your results, so the game can match you with opponents near your strength.
